BBYO International Convention 2027

Global Ambassadors Week Home Host Registration

Thank you for expressing interest in hosting international delegates in advance of BBYO International Convention 2027!

International Convention 2027 kicks off in Baltimore on February 11th but the global pre-IC program, Global Ambassadors Week, will take place in the Rockville, MD/Washington, DC area beforehand.

We're looking for families from across the community to host hundreds of international teen delegates before IC 2027 officially kicks off! This special opportunity, from Sunday, February 7th through Wednesday morning, February 10th, is a unique cross-cultural experience that will allow you to connect with BBYO's global network and Jewish life around the world!

You'll need to be able to provide the following to qualify as a Global Ambassadors Week home host:

  • Greet and pick up your international delegates at Dulles International Airport (IAD) on Sunday, February 7.
  • Welcome a minimum of two (2) teens into your home. Many families host 3-5 teens. Please make sure that you think about the size of your car (don't forget luggage!) and house when you decide how many teens you would like to host.
  • Provide comfortable housing with safe, clean and appropriate sleeping arrangements. International delegates can share a full-sized bed or larger, including quality pull-out beds. No air mattresses or mattresses on the floor, please!
  • Transport of your delegates to a designated "bus stop" (adult drivers only, please) will be required for morning drop off and evening pick-up on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (morning only). The days begin early in the morning and end in the early evening. All MD and DC-area teens can easily go to school, and adults hosts will have uninterrupted work days. Pick-up points for bussing will be mapped closer to the event.
  • Provide all meals post-arrival on Sunday, February 7th, breakfast and dinner on Monday, February 8th and Tuesday, February 9th, and breakfast on Wednesday, February 10th.
  • Host your international delegate as you would a friend - these teens are excited to experience American life and will be eager to check out your favorite spots while they are your guest!
Program details will be shared with all hosting families beginning this Fall and will be updated regularly.

In order to be a confirmed Home Host for BBYO Global Ambassadors Week, all adults in the home will need to complete a background screening through our background check provider, Vetty. Within 1 week of registering to host, all adults in the home will receive an email from Vetty that requires immediate action by clicking the link provided and completing the required information. Please note that your participation as a Global Ambassadors Week Home Host will be contingent upon successful completion of all required compliance steps by all adults in your home. Any adult that has not been cleared cannot stay overnight in the home during the home hosting period. BBYO takes the security of our teens seriously, and we appreciate your help in taking this crucial step to help ensure a safe environment.

Priority registration for member teens in host households will be granted for those who have completed all compliance steps by September 15.

Please ensure that we have email addresses for all adults in the home, and if you have any questions you can reach out to Liz McGinnis at lmcginnis@bbyo.org.

Below, please complete the names and email addresses of any adults in your home over the age of 18.

Volunteering at IC

Thank you for your interest in hosting international delegates. This cross-cultural exchange is a meaningful opportunity. We encourage you to explore the culture of your guest(s) and learn about their unique Jewish community! Please remember that there will be cultural differences, and opportunities to learn from one another throughout the experience.

As a reminder, you'll need to be able to provide the following to qualify as an IC home host:

  • Greet your international delegates at Dulles International Airport on Sunday, February 7.
  • Provide comfortable housing with safe, clean and appropriate sleeping arrangements.
  • Provide transportation (adult drivers only) to our pick-up and drop-off locations each day.
  • Provide breakfast and dinner during programming days.
  • If your family is engaging in an outing like a movie or eating out at a restaurant, you'll be comfortable to pay for your international delegates. This does not include casual socializing, like going to a mall where delegates shop with spending money that they have brought to purchase gifts, souvenirs, etc.

BBYO's Home Host Guidelines

We are grateful for your partnership and for opening your home to our teens. As a home host, BBYO wants to make sure that you are aware of the policies and expectations of our hosts:
  • Be helpful and supportive to teens if they need you.
  • Teens should not share a sleeping room with an adult over 18. They should have private sleeping quarters with other BBYO teens.
  • You, or another adult over the age of 21, must be home during and the the entire duration of GAW.
  • Any firearms, alcohol, tobacco products and medication owned by the host should be secured from and not be accessed by teens.
  • There is no need to physically be with the teens the entire time, but they should be aware that you are home.
  • For the safety of participants and out of respect for their parent(s)/guardian(s), I/we agree to not consume or use alcohol or drugs for the duration of the program. Tobacco products should only be used out of the presence of participants.
  • Home hosts should never be alone in a closed-door room with a teen one-on-one. All contact between adults and teens should be appropriate, observable, and interruptible.
  • If any of the following occur please notify BBYO regional staff as soon as possible:
    • Concerns regarding teen safety, mental health, bullying, and/or inclusion.
    • Reason to suspect that a teen may be a victim of abuse or may be a risk to themselves.
    • Observe or suspect any violations of the BBYO Code of Conduct and Community Commitments, including but not limited to the use of drugs, alcohol, or vaping products.
    • Any incident involving damage to property, injury to a person, unwelcome physical contact, etc.

Thank you!

BBYO appreciates our DC-area community and would not be able to put on incredible programs without your help. Make sure to click "submit", or the form will not be received.
